The
word salsa (hot sauce) is the word that people would use
to tell dancers and musicians to add flavour and life
to their dancing and playing when they were lacking the
fire -- "Ponle Salsa" or, put some sauce in
it. Salsa, the dance, is an integration of Mambo, Rhumba,
Jazz, Bomba, the turn patterns from the Hustle, and most
importantly, your own personal style. Dance schools from
North America to Australia are all joining in to create
their own Salsa.
So, what is Salsa? Salsa is what we make it -- so ponle
salsa!
Salsa is not easily defined. Though many get caught up
in the age old debate as to who "invented" salsa
(Cubans or Puerto Ricans), the truth of the matter is
that salsa has, and will always continue to have a great
number of influences that have, each played a large part
in its evolution.
